Venezuela.

(Syn. C. speciosissima). Tipo or "typical" form, however this batch turns out to have exceptional flowers. "Flor de Mayo" (May Flower). Very open big and showy flowers. Varies from lilac to intense purple. Apical half of lip is dark amethyst to reddish-amethyst, with a yellow "eye". Warm growing and relatively dry. Twice-a-year flowering. "As with other Cattleyas of our country, this species has also been severely punished, both by commercial growers and by amateurs..." "The cultivation of (artificially-propagated) species in danger of extinction at least brings some hope." (Aulisi 1989)
