A lovely and distinct species. (B.S. Williams, 1885) This has flowers larger than the plant! 4 1/2" flowers are dark-pink to rose-purple, one or two per spike. Sadly, it is almost extinct in its limited habitat in Minas Gerais. Many sources suggest mounting for this species.

This variety has flowers that are white with a ring of lavender of varying intensities, on the inside basal part of the lip (the name is derived from the word annulus). Yellow color in the throat, the color is yellow with radiating lavender lines. Nice. Very limited. Beautiful variety.

TOF3279 Lycaste (skinneri x brevispatha) x brevispatha

No Image Available

The (skinneri x brevispatha) is a very successful and beautiful hybrid created by Kathy's late friend, Sr. Andres Maduro at Finca Dracula in Panama. I think his idea was to make something with large beautiful pink flowers, which would be warm-tolerant (due to the warm and pink-colored L. brevispatha), and in this he greatly succeeded! It grows easily at our place, whereas L. skinneri does not. Moving on now to a second generation, a selfing would have been great, but that apparently is not in the cards. So here, I instead have tried a "backcross" with brevispatha. This will make a very warm-tolerant plant with numerous showy pink flowers, albeit the flowers will be smaller than in Mr. Maduro's fantastic hybrid. This is a fun and promising project - I hope you will try it.
