(Syn: C. autumnalis) Rare in nature. Five to twenty 3" flowers per stem, beautiful orchid-blue in this variety. The flowers are beautiful light blue-purple, with a darker blue-purple ring on the lip. “Plants of this species regularly flower in the fall or early winter, hence one of its names, autumnalis." (Withner, 1988) Tolerant of heat, sun and low humidity. Very important to us, as it blooms right on schedule for our big County Fair Orchid Show in early October.

Cattleya gaskelliana `Sutil' x self

Gallery
 (C. gaskelliana var. semi alba delicata) ‘Sutil’ means subtle. Beautiful semi-alba with white petals has been used. Progeny could be white or extremely pale pink. (Rolfe, in Orchid Review of 1895, describes it as being colored, but very pale) The normal lavender purple color of the lip is very pale and shaped as a well defined streaked stain, and there is yellow in the throat.

Cattleya gaskelliana var. concolor 'Natural World' x self.

This is actually one of the best cultivars we have managed to add to our collection over the years. It is an amazing performer with huge displays of large concolor-type flowers. Growth habit is more contained compared to some other cultivars of the species. Flowers are a uniform light lilac color, with orange in the throat. In England during the Golden Age, they were able to have one large-flowered cattleya species in bloom every day of the year, except during late May and early June. The introduction of C. gaskelliana in 1883, with its May-June flowering, changed all that – and this factor was responsible for fast rise in popularity. Gaskelliana sometimes gets a bad rap – for being too large and “too easy” to grow (!) I recommend this cultivar.
