TOF3279 Lycaste (skinneri x brevispatha) x brevispatha

No Image Available

The (skinneri x brevispatha) is a very successful and beautiful hybrid created by Kathy's late friend, Sr. Andres Maduro at Finca Dracula in Panama. I think his idea was to make something with large beautiful pink flowers, which would be warm-tolerant (due to the warm and pink-colored L. brevispatha), and in this he greatly succeeded! It grows easily at our place, whereas L. skinneri does not. Moving on now to a second generation, a selfing would have been great, but that apparently is not in the cards. So here, I instead have tried a "backcross" with brevispatha. This will make a very warm-tolerant plant with numerous showy pink flowers, albeit the flowers will be smaller than in Mr. Maduro's fantastic hybrid. This is a fun and promising project - I hope you will try it.

Fabulous genus - 53 species have been described from mountainous New Guinea, but perhaps this should be reduced to less than 15. Small creeping or clumping epiphytes with many small colorful bell-shaped flowers. This one has orange blooms with yellow tips, like candy corn.
