TOF3206 Cattleya violacea `Orquiven' x self.
Venezuela to Bolivia.

Cattleya violacea `Orquiven' x self.

Gallery
Medium size hot-to-warm growing epiphyte. Long-lasting fragrant flowers that open up very flat. Rich lavender color, especially the lip and column. It is found along low-elevation rivers, in chosen locations, over a 4 million square kilometer area. Often growing on branches out over the water , where the plants benefit form the rising moisture, but also brighter light reflected up from the water. We are excited that we now are able to easily grow this species, using our “empty-pot method”. Limited. Botanical print by Walter Hood Fitch (1817 - 1892), illustrator, Robert Warner (1814-1896) and Benjamin Samuel Williams (1822-1890) editors [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons.

Costa Rica.

Correctly Stenotyla picta. This is really a neat plant - one of my favorites within the fan-shaped leafy species. This flowers a lot and puts on a good show (flowers emerge and can be seen, they are not hiding in the foliage. (Good to hang it up or mount it, if possible - for good display). Moderate-size species - not gigantic like some. In this cultivar, the flowers are all-yellow.

Eastern Papua New Guinea.

Dendrobium aberrans.

Gallery
Still one of our most popular species. Mossy intermediate forests. “Miniature” clumping plants produce small sprays of 1/2" interestingly shaped white flowers, which last about three weeks. Old pseudobulbs keep sending out inflorescences for many years. Can flower anytime, with an emphasis on winter. “On trees in the forests of the Maboro Range (Waria District). The species grows always in colonies…” (Schlecter 1914) Very cute - a winner.

Dendrobium glomeratum.

Gallery
(Den. sulawesiense).Like a giant Den. lawesii - with canes from 10" to 20" long. Large, very bright pink long-lasting flowers are borne 6-10 per inflorescence. Orange lip. Grow with brighter light. Really perhaps the best Dendrobium species we’ve ever grown – because of its extremely showy long-lasting displays and its free-blooming habit. Very few people who see this in flower at our nursery leave without it. Especially nice when displayed as a hanging plant. Recommended.

Dendrobium tanii 'Dark Pink' x sib 'Pink'.

Gallery
Correctly D. bracteosum ‘Mr. Tan’s’, or also known as D. bracteosum var. tannii. Kew does not list D. tanii as a valid species name. It does differ from the regular bracteosum in its more compact growth habit and larger flowers. Small to medium warm-growing epiphyte, with flowers that last a very long time, 3 months or longer. Hopefully pink will come out, but in our previous experiences with Den. bracteosum itself, whites with colored lips also resulted)

Gallery
Large hot-growing species puts on tremendous displays of long-lasting flowers on beautiful sprays. 2" closely-spaced flowers are green or yellow-green, and are sometimes carried up to 100 on a spike. Our big plants (that we keep for our big orchid show) will have 10 -20 spikes. This is really good for the Show at the beginning of October - we can count on having these in bloom, and because they are long-lasting, there is some leeway with the timing.
