Scaphosepalum grande.

Gallery
Another of the 27 genera in the fantastic Pleurothallidinae. Easy-growing fleshy plants send up tall spikes from each growth, which flower successively with "large" showy yellow flowers. Bizarre blossoms look like creatures from outer space, with long pendant appendages from each petal. Reddish in center of flower. Recommended to familiarize oneself with this genus, in preparation for the rarer and fantastical species to come!

Miniature clumping epiphyte has wire-like spikes which hold the single flowers out away from the plant (successively many flowered). Tiny 3/8" flowers are yellowish with an elongated red lip. This has just been described as a new species by Carlyle Luer. Most Scaphosepalum species have proven easy to grow in our intermediate climate and quite rewarding.

(Schomburgkia tibicinis x Cattleya bicolor) Very nice showy hybrid! 3 - 6 large red waxy flowers with undulated petals and sepals. Flowers are held at tops of spikes as in Schomburgkia but much shorter therefore more manageable. We heard that one of our seedlings from a previous selfings just received an FCC/AOS in San Diego.

Schomburgkia exaltata Orange `Arnilicious' x self.

(Myrmecophila exaltata) Large to giant hot-growing lowland epiphyte has long tall spike (7 ft) with many (to 80) beautiful bright colorful flowers. In this unusual select variety, the 2-inch flowers with undulated sepals and petals are orange, with purple on the lip and orangey in the throat. While we have a lot of beautiful and rare schomburgkias in our collection; exaltata remains one of my favorites, very cheery to look at. Photo courtesy of Arnold Gum.

TOF3038 Schomburgkia lueddemannii `Really Really Nice' x self.
Costa Rica, Panama..

I actually do not remember what this looks like! The ‘Really Really Nice’ is the note I made on the seed capsule tag at the time. These are large warm-growing epiphytes with long spikes with heads of flowers at the ends. In general. lueddemanniii has narrow, very undulated petals and sepals which are dark red brown, the lip side lobes are red or lavender.

TOF2677 Sobralia callosa.
Panama.

Sobralia callosa.

Gallery
If you always wanted to grow Sobralias but were put off by their large size - then this is for you. This "mini-Sobralia" also happens to have the brightest hot pink colored flowers! Good-sized blossoms too. The mature parent plant is now about 18" tall and very clumpy. I think it had around 45 flowers at once displayed beautifully around the plant. Beautiful interesting foliage too. As you know, Sobralia flowers are short lived (one or two days) but plant blooms over and over from the same canes throughout a season (Fall/Winter). We are the first to propagate this rare and desirable species from seed.

TD484 Sobralia decora alba 'Natural World'
Guatemala.

Rare variety. Only one alba has occurred in our years of working with this species. Still one of my favorite Sobralia species. Numerous flowers last only one day, but plant re-blooms frequently throughout a long season. Extremely showy displays and lovely floral scent fills the nursery. My large plant has had up to 40 flowers at a time. 3" flowers pure white with some yellow in the throat. Here's a chance to get one of our rare "heritage" plants.

Sabah, Sarawak One of my favorites! Semi-terrestrial plants with nice green and purplish grass-like foliage have long spikes with large full bright yellow flowers (a little red or pink on lip side lobes). Continues to flower on the same spikes for months. I've had the species for a long time, but this is the first time I could get it to take a seed capsule. Very rewarding plant for the greenhouse or garden.
