Cute miniature warm -growing epiphytic species from hot humid lowlands carries a basal 4" to 12" few-to-many flowered inflorescence of "large" (1/2") bronze flowers with long yellow lip. Compressed, rounded pseudobulbs look neat. Sweet miniature! Very limited.

Truly one of the greatest and most unique oncidiums – a golden oldie from the past. Not found in the market much simply because it is very difficult to set seed. “This is a species which ought to be in every collection “ (The Orchid Growers Manual, 1885) Large flat leathery pseudobulbs topped by a single leathery leaf. Curious small twisted Brassia-like flowers on branched panicles are white, yellow and red-brown. Get started with these nice seedlings – later this will be much costlier. Recommended.  Small warm-growing epiphyte has a unique spike habit for a phalenopsis. Tall erect raceme to 16" carries five or six 1.5" flowers, all opening simultaneously. After flowering the spike continues to elongate and periodically re-flower. Flowers are green with glossy red-brown barring. Very distinctive when you see it.

One of my favorite pleurothallids. A cloud forest small epiphyte with many nice successively blooming bright orange flowers. Grows well here so it's not that cool-growing. Photo courtesy Tomas Bajza (Please note; all photos on this site are of T.O.F. plants)

Plectrelminthus caudatus.

Up to 20 large flowers are fragrant and long lasting. Pale green often flushed with bronze. Ivory white lip with green tip. Thick worm-like spur. Easily cultivated under warm conditions. "When this spectacular species first flowered in England, in 1835, it was described as remarkable and extremely rare. The first plants were imported by Messrs. Conrad Loddiges of Hackney, and were described by Lindley as the 'Long-tailed Angraecum'. He pointed out the unusual length of the spur..." (Joyce Stewart, 1981)

TD269 Pleurothallis pacayana.
Guatemala..

No Image Available

Correctly, it is supposed to be Pleurothallis gacayana- even though it is named for the Pacayan Volcano. This is said to be an error by Schlecter when describing the species. It is such a strange plant that for now it is one of my favorites! Odd, tall stems are 4-sided topped by an attractive leaf. Cluster of small bright red-orange flowers are at the leaf apices.

TD260 Pleurothallis ruberrima 'Peru'.
Peru..

The plants are tall (2 ft.) - leaves are narrow and pointed. The single "showy" yellow flowers dangle off the leaf on a short thin wiry inflorescence (in the manner of Pl. adeleae - it surely must be in the same section as adeleae) The flowers are 2 1/4" long. Long dorsal sepal is 1 1/4" long. Platter-like fused synsepal. The overall color of the flower is a translucent gold. A very desirable species.

TD307 Pleurothallis sp. #5.
Mexico..

Very cute small species to 4” tall with wiry leaf stems. Single ¼” flowers at base of leaf are golden with a reddish suffusion offset by a wine-red lip. Interestingly, this plant has been identified by Selby as Pl. circumplexa (O.I.C. # 13938), but they did state that this plant is NOT typical. We are not using that name because this plant and flowers do not remotely resemble the photos of Pl. circumplexa on the Internet or in books such as ‘Field Guide to the Orchids of Costa Rica and Panama’ (Dressler)
